May 1, 2013. Award-winning photographers Tommy White and Alistair Nicol host “High Country Photo and Imaging Workshop” from June 14 to 16, which takes place at the height of the rhododendron bloom.
The weekend workshop includes visits to White and Nicol’s favorite spots for hands-on instructions along the Blue Ridge Parkway and Roan Mountain for spectacular views during sunset and sunrise. The workshop also includes sessions at the photographers’ studio in downtown Boone for processing, image editing and review lessons.
“The rhododendrons will be spectacular, the sun will be warm and the early mountain air will be crisp,” states a promotional on Nicol’s website.
Tuition is $275, and group size is limited to 12 people.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
A full two days of adventure and shooting including both sunrise and sunset locations.
Friday
We will meet Friday the 14th in the late afternoon in the Boone studio for introductions and instructions. Following the presentation, we will head out to the Blue Ridge Parkway for sunset then call it an night.
Saturday
We will head out early Saturday morning to our first location at Roan Mountain. Then we will break for lunch and follow up with an afternoon session of digital processing and image review. Snacks and pizza will be provided in the late afternoon during the image review. In the evening, we will travel to the Blue Ridge Parkway to capture the sunset.
For those intrepid souls, join Tommy and Alistair late night for light painting and star trails.
Sunday
Then on Sunday, rise and shine again for a breath taking sunrise at one of Tommy and Alistair’s favorite spots. We will wrap things up in the late morning.
Topics covered:
The fundamentals of photography, camera settings, composition, correct exposure, histograms, hyper-focal distance, High Dynamic Range (HDR), and the use of filters. Enrollment is limited so you will receive individual attention to address your particular needs. You’ll learn essential skills throughout the weekend that will enhance your image making in the future. In addition, we have some fantastic sponsors, giveaways and door prizes for all.
