Special Planning Commission Meeting for Rivers Walk Development Sept. 12

The Planning Commission will hold a special meeting on Monday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. regarding the permit application for Rivers Walk, a mixed-use development proposed at the old Southern States property at the intersection of Poplar Grove and Water Street.

The development is proposed to feature 380 beds in 151 units and a 199-vehicle parking deck.

Jeff Githens with McKinley Boone, LLC filed for a zoning map amendment petition for the mixed-use proposal with the Boone Planning & Inspections. During a town meeting in June, Githens stated that the project has a budget in the ballpark of $35 million.

Case 20160136 Rivers Walk PD Zoning Map Amendment – Glen Weaver has filed a Planning Permit Application for a Planned Development Zoning Map Amendment to rezone 178 South Water Street, 190 and 208 Poplar Grove Road from B1 Central Business to a Planned Development zoning district with a site specific development plan which includes a mixed-use building (residential and commercial uses), including a parking deck.
