Special Event Recap: Beech Mountain’s Snowman Building Contest Brings Out Local Family Creativity

Feb. 16, 2015. Fresh powder and creativity filled the sledding hill at the beginning of this month as 80 enthusiastic individuals participated in the annual Snowman Building Contest at Beech Mountain.

Families from far and wide came together to build and decorate 19 snow people of all shapes and sizes. While the Parks and Recreation Department was able to provide some silly scarves, funky hats, carrot noses, coal eyes and cork buttons, serious competitors brought their own tools and some interesting materials to adorn their works of art.

The snow creations ranged from the familiar “Frosty” to a huge snow fort prepared for snowball battle! Awards given included “Best Dressed,” “Best Face” and “Most Creative.” After the judging was completed and the prizes awarded, it was time to hit the sledding hill and throw a few snowballs too. For many of the families, it was the first time for them to see snow and also their first visit to Beech Mountain.

Thank you to Fred and Margie Pfohl for providing the big blue sled door prize and to our volunteers: Gloria, Susie, Barbara and Therese for their hard work judging the competition.

Congratulations to all our participants who created a winter wonderland of fun for everyone.
