Feb. 14, 2014. After the storm that dropped anywhere from seven inches of snow in Elk Park and Sugar Grove to 14 inches atop Sugar Mountain and West Jefferson, the High Country will have a brief reprieve from falling snow. (See photos from Wednesday and Thursday’s snow showers here.)

The clear skies that showed up last night will remain through this afternoon, according to a forecast from RaysWeather.com.

“Trouble is brewing to our west. A fast moving and very energetic clipper moves from Missouri to Eastern Kentucky today, then blows up as a strong storm off the New England Coast tomorrow. It’s a quick hitter, but it will pack a punch tonight especially at higher elevations,” RayWeather.com reports.

Mountaintops will see 3 to 6 inches of snow by early Saturday; 1 to 3 inches for most of the Blue Ridge; and roughly a dusting along the valleys east. This, of course, is nothing quite like we saw Wednesday and Thursday.

Check out snow totals from previous storm below.

  • Boone: 8 to 9 inches
