The High Country is expected to receive 2 to 5 inches of snow from Thursday afternoon through Friday morning, according to a snow accumulation forecast by RaysWeather.com.
“Early morning flurries are of no practical significance. The real show begins between 3 PM to 5 PM then intensifies around or just before sunset. It’s mostly a 4-6 hour event tapering to light snow late tonight then snow showers and flurries Friday morning,” RaysWeather.com’s forecast discussion reads.
The National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Va., issued a winter-weather advisory that goes into effect at 6 p.m. on Thursday evening and expires at 10 a.m. on Friday.
The NWS service states that northeast winds of 5 to 10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph will become northwest winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts of 25 mph by Friday morning.
The winter-weather advisory states that the snow storm could cause travel difficulties and asks for motorists to be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibility when driving during the peak of the snow storm.
