Snow Day on Halloween for Watauga, Avery County Schools; No Word Yet on Appalachian State University

By Paul T. Choate

Oct. 30, 2012.  Both Watauga County Schools and Avery County Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Oct. 31, due to inclement weather associated with the recent impacts of Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy.

WCS, ACS and Appalachian State University were all closed today due to the snow storm. WCS and ASU operated on a regular schedule on Monday, with ASU canceling evening classes. ACS were closed Monday.

All WCS will be closed for students and it will be an optional teacher workday with a two hour delay for all teachers and staff. The snow day program at Hardin Park will open at 7:30 a.m. ACS will also have an optional teacher workday with a two hour delay for all teachers and staff.

No decision has been announced for ASU as of press time. Currently, AppalCART, Boone’s public transportation service, has not announced any closures on routes. AppalCART was closed on Tuesday.
