Jan. 20, 2014. Appalachian State University presents the 2014 Department of Art Faculty Biennial Exhibition at the Smith Gallery and Turchin Center for the Visual Arts (TCVA) in Boone. This show represents a wide variety of recent works created by artists currently teaching in the Department of Art. The exhibition will be on view from Jan. 24-Feb. 27 at the Smith Gallery located in the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts and Feb. 7- March 22 at TCVA on King Street.
Presenting this exhibition at two venues simultaneously enables visitors to experience a wider range of artworks in a variety of media including painting, sculpture, metal, fiber, photography, printmaking, drawing, clay, video, digital media, installation and public interventions. The works in the exhibition highlight the efforts of faculty members who are committed to not only being motivators and mentors for students, but to engaging in scholarship and research. Faculty exhibitions enable students to experience and discuss artwork produced by their teachers. They also give the community a chance to engage with the many ideas and practices being explored and taught within the Department of Art.
The Smith Gallery will be exhibiting the following artists: Adam Adcock, Catherine Altice, Eli Bentor, Martin Church, Tyler Deal, Travis Donovan, Nelle Owens Dunlap, Lynn Duryea, Tim Ford, Carmen Grier, Scott Ludwig, Ed Midgett, Mark Systron, Branch Richter, Jody Servon, John Stephenson, Lisa Stinson, James Toub and Tricia Treacy.
