Slapstick Farce ‘Noises Off’ Presented Oct. 3-7

Sept. 26, 2012. The Appalachian State University Department of Theatre and Dance in partnership with the Office of Arts and Cultural Programs presents Tony Award-winning playwright Michael Frayn’s hit masterpiece “Noises Off” Oct. 3-7.

Recipient of the prestigious Drama Desk Award for Best Play, this comedy will be performed in Valborg Theatre Oct. 3-6 at 7:30 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee Oct. 7. Tickets start at $8. This farcical plot follows a theatre company and its struggles in producing an upcoming performance of “Nothing On.” Pandemonium ensues and challenges arise as lust, alcohol, egos, and tension combine to create a recipe for hilarity in the final hours leading up to opening night.

“Most of the actors have two accents to differentiate between the different characters they play,” said senior Madeline Hintz, a theatre arts education major who plays the dual roles of Dotty and Mrs. Clackett.

Veteran theatre faculty member Joel Williams directs the show. “Noises Off” is produced in collaboration with Appalachian’s acclaimed Performing Arts Series. Denise Ringer, director of the Office of Cultural Programs, is “thrilled to be partnering with the Department of Theatre and Dance” and pleased to include this outstanding production in the current season of the Performing Arts Series.

Tickets are available in person at the Valborg Theatre box office Monday through Friday 9-5 p.m. or by phone at (828) 262-3063. Prices are $8 for students, $13 for faculty/staff and seniors, and $15 for adults. More information is available online at www.theatre.appstate.edu.

Valborg Theatre is located on the north side of Chapell Wilson Hall on Howard Street. The door faces the back of the Turchin Arts Center on King Street. Parking is available after 5 p.m. on campus in faculty lots, the College Street parking deck near the Belk Library and Information Commons.
