Ski Slopes Are In Great Shape For The Weekend!

Snowboarders have been enjoying the the awesome conditions at Appalachian this week.

The ski slopes couldn’t be happier with weather conditions that have allowed snowmaking to be almost continuous during the past week. Snow from last weekend’s storm is still covering much of the ground across the High Country and temperatures will be below freezing Friday and Saturday nights before a slight warming trend takes place Sunday through the first part of the week. Drew Stanley of Appalachian Ski Mtn. says “Conditions for the weekend should be fantastic! Weather for the weekend looks ideal for skiing, cool but not frigid, clear and calm.” Talia Freeman of Beech Mountain reports, “In regards to snowmaking and cold temperatures. This has been the best December we have experienced in several years. We have been able to put down a lot of snow and the ten inches of natural snow really helped us open additional terrain. We opened Robbins this week and hope to open more runs as soon as possible.” Kim Jochl at Sugar Mountain says, We expect a great weekend! And the weather forecasters are predicting a perfect winter weather weekend.”

Appalachian Ski Mtn. will have 10 of their 12 trails open with a base of 24-36 inches of snow. They will also have all three terrain parks open for the weekend a with a variety of features for riders of all ability.

Beech Mountain Resort will have 12 of their 17 slopes open with 5 lifts operating. Night skiing on Beech opens Friday night and the ice skating rink and tubing run will open on Saturday. 

Sugar Mountain Resort will have 12 of 21 slopes open with 4 lifts in operation. They are reporting a base of 48 inches on snow on top of the mountain. Their ice skating rink and tubing operations have sessions from 10 in the morning till the 8 pm when their last session begins.

Hawksnest Tubing has been taking advantage of the snow making conditions as well and looks to have all their tubing runs open for the weekend. Tubing session run for two hours beginning at 10 am through their last session at 6 pm. Hawksnest also offers their ziplining tours through the winter months.
