Five Arrested in Avery County for Charges Related to Meth Manufacturing

Early on the morning of Nov. 23, officers with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office responded to information about a possible meth lab on Spanish Oak Rd.

The initial responding officer located evidence of an active lab at the residence.  Other responding Officers and Investigators secured the scene while a search warrant was prepared.

Brian Burgess, 22, of Blevins Creek Rd was arrested and caharged with Possession of Methamphetamine Precursor Chemicals and Manufacturing a Schedule II drug and was lodged in the Avery County Jail under a $225,000 bond.

Bennie Mills, 44, of Eskona Street and Thomas Moody of Pine Cluster Lane were also charged with Possession of Methamphetamine Precursor Chemicals and Manufacturing a Schedule II drug and were also placed under a $225,000 bond at the jail.

Randy Walters, 38, was charged with two counts of Possession of Methamphetamine Precursor Chemicals and Manufacturing a Schedule II drug.  He was lodged in the jail under a $235,000 bond.

Elizabeth Walters, 39, of Morganton was charged with one count of Possession of Methamphetamine Chemicals and was placed under a $30,000 bond.  The suspects were interviewed and investigators received statements of admission and indications of other suspects involved.  The investigation is still ongoing.
