Sights and Sounds of the Season at Carlton Gallery

Dec. 8, 2014. Carlton Gallery invites all to enjoy the sights and sounds at its 32nd Winter Exhibition featuring “Small Works” where fine art in paintings, glass, sculpture, wood, clay, wearable fiber and jewelry by the many local, regional and national artists the gallery represents is a visual delight to experience.

The sights of the season are found in landscape paintings by Kevin Beck, Freeman Beard, Holly Glasscock, Mary Martha McKinley and Egi Antonaccio of snow-covered, serene scenes in oils, pastels and watercolor.

Tranquil and inspirational paintings by Toni Carlton reflect the season’s stillness and serenity in her ongoing “Art Songs of the Heart” exhibition.

Amy Sullivan renders abstract works with silhouettes of barns on a monochrome palette, along with paintings in bold, primary colors. Her work is inspired by the rural structures found throughout the area.

Andrew Braitman’s miniature 5×7 abstract landscapes are a delight for novice collectors as well as devotees looking for an original artwork.

Paintings by Kevin Aita depict ballet dancers in various movements and positions. He is able to capture in oils the elusive essence of a dancer’s character. His piece, “Synthesis” shows multiple translucent superimposed images of one dance movement in the same painting. His painting, “Grace,” illustrates the heart of ballet during this magical season.

Jayne Harris’ sculptured clay works express her love of nature and the feminine mystic of protecting and caring for our planet. New additions to this Winter Exhibition include both whimsical and thought-provoking works in smaller gift sizes.

The 32nd Winter Exhibition with “Small Works” features wearable fiber art in coats, jackets, vests and scarves in beautiful colors and designs; distinctive wool felted hats, along with textured fabric purses which are sure to please that special someone this holiday season. Hand-woven Merino wool, silk and linen scarves with intricate designs and texture will warm body, mind and spirit.

Jewelry adds to the holiday season and many collections by the gallery’s artisans, including Don Haywood, Laura Fly, Lisa Kent, Rebecca Hellman, Tana Acton, Kincheloe Hard, Channing Ayers and Judith Goldstein are at the gallery. A spirited collection of necklaces, bracelets, earrings, pendants and rings in sterling silver, with specious and semi-precious gemstones, pearls, crystals, fossils, sculptural wrapped wire and beads in myriad colors and shapes is sure to make the holidays bright.

New gallery designer, Ran Armstrong, crafts sculptural art jewelry which incorporates 14K, 18K gold and sterling silver. He hand cuts or carves many of the crystals and gemstones in his exquisite line of one-of-a-kind pieces which include pendants and rings in a variety of price ranges.

Sounds of the season are found in the Native-American inspired wood flutes by Joe Mareka whose visits to the south west introduced him to the beauty of flute music.

Hardwood drums by father and son, Michael and Joah Thiele, fill the gallery with sweet, melodious sounds. The drums are made from exotic woods and crafted in superior workmanship. Each is tuned to the key of C and can be played by all ages.

Enjoy holiday music while shopping in Carlton Gallery’s casually elegant and tranquil atmosphere. One can find exceptional gift ideas of fine art and handmade crafts for visitors and collectors.
