April 18, 2014. On Wednesday, April 16, shortly after 6:15 p.m., a Boone Police officer responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver on West King Street. The officer located the suspect vehicle stationary in the parking lot of the Kangaroo Express, 1220 West King St.

When the officer exited his vehicle and started to approach the driver of the suspect vehicle, the driver re-entered his vehicle and left traveling westbound on King Street. The officer followed the vehicle and attempted to stop it. The driver did not heed the lights and siren. A short low-speed pursuit followed until the driver turned onto Highland Hall Road and stopped.
As a result of the incident, Aaron Lee McGinnis, 31, of Georges Gap Road, Vilas, NC, was arrested and charged with Driving While Impaired, Failure to Stop For Blue Lights and Siren, Driving Left of Center. Mr. McGinnis was held on a $1750 secured bond pending a June 3, 2013, court appearance.
Additionally, Seth Willey, 36, of Green Street, Boone, NC, was arrested and charged with Resist, Obstruct, or Delaying an Officer due to his actions during the incident. Mr. Willey was a passenger in Mr. McGinnis’ vehicle. Mr. Willey failed to remain in the vehicle after being instructed to do so and then attempted to flee on foot when the officer ordered him to stop. Mr. Willey was held on a $1000 secured bond pending a June 3, 2013, court appearance.
