April 7, 2014. The beautiful mountains of Watauga County will play host to the seventh annual Watauga County Youth Service Day. On April 12, Watauga High School’s student leadership program, Mountain Alliance, will be taking the county’s youth out to service sites around the community. The event is open to all high school students ages 13-18. Registration will remain open until the start of the event, but it is preferred that the students register before then.

Student volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. at Watauga High School prepared for a hard day’s work outside. Participants will be split up into different groups with each group going to a different service site. The students will find out which site they are assigned to when groups are announced on April 10. or when they arrive on Saturday morning. Potential service sites include Watauga Humane Society, Horse Helpers, Blue Ridge Conservancy, The Farm at Mollie’s Branch, Hospitality House, a New River clean up and Children’s Playhouse among other locations throughout the county.

Once the students are done at their service sites they are welcome to leave to get ready for prom, but why leave when you can stay and enjoy an after party with free food? The after party will be a chance for students, parents and friends to hang out and share their experiences from the day. The party will also include a slideshow of all the photos taken throughout the day as well as a potential student DJ, senior Adrian Sethi.

Don’t sit inside all day getting ready for Prom! Join us in keeping our High Country community beautiful. Signups are available in the Mountain Alliance classroom (2314) at the high school. All you need is to list your preferences and get a parent or guardian to sign it. Bring it back to the Mountain Alliance room and get excited to be part of an awesome day. Hope to see you there.
