July 3, 2014. The Town of Seven Devils will host the 11th annual SafetyFest on Saturday, July 5 at the Seven Devils Town Hall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in order to help raise money for the Seven Devils Fire Department, Police Department and Public Safety Department. The event will feature a full barbecue meal, a craft fair, a raffle, a silent auction and numerous activities for kids.
The barbecue meal, beginning at 11 a.m., is a big draw for the event each year. The meal includes a generous portion of pork barbecue, baked beans, cole slaw, a roll, a drink and dessert for the price of $8 for adults and $5.50 for children under 12.
The craft fair will feature a variety of vendors selling various goods including paintings, baked goods, jams, jellies, jewelry and more.
Drawings for the raffle will be held every hour beginning at 11 a.m. Prizes range from a high definition TV and a Keurig coffee maker to numerous donations from local businesses and many gift certificates.
Bidding for the silent auction is open until 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The prizes for the auction are tickets to numerous attractions and upcoming summer events including Tweetsie Railroad, Lees McRae’s Summer Theatre Series, the Barter Theatre, Mystery Hill and more.
There are numerous children’s activities available during the event. There will be several recreational games, crafts, a bounce castle and many demonstrations for the kids by the fire department and police department.
The Safety Fest has been a big help to town funding since its inception. Money raised goes to buy essential equipment, like fire gear and defibrillators, so that town officials can better keep residents safe.
Kay Ehlinger has served as a Public Safety Committee member in the past and has worked with the event numerous times. She encourages as much participation for the event as possible.
“We would love for anyone to come and join us for the day — there will be food, prizes, fun for the kids. And it really is for a good cause: to raise money for these three departments and help keep our community safe.”
