The Town of Blowing Rock is planning the first of its two semi-annual flushing of the water lines to take place on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, May 3, 4 and 5. This important preventive maintenance routine will help ensure water system customers have sustained levels of high water quality by removing sediment and deposits from the more stagnant areas of the system.
Some customers may briefly experience a temporary slight discoloration of water in the immediate vicinity of the flushing activity. If this happens in your area, please run your cold-water faucet to flush out the service line to your property. For rare but occasional extended discoloration please contact Town Hall at (828) 295-5200 with your service location and we will work to clear up any issues. Thanks so much for your understanding and support through this necessary maintenance process.
Our spring 2016 process is planned for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday May 3, 4 and 5 of 2016 and our fall 2016 process is planned for November 8-10 of 2016. These 2016 dates are also printed in the Blowing Rock Community Calendar available at Town Hall.
In our effort to inform our customers so they can plan accordingly, we will be using our CodeRED automated notification system on Wednesday April 20. For those customers and citizens who have not yet registered for this free service, they may do so through the CodeRED link on the upper left side of our website at www.townofblowingrock.com. CodeRED messages may be received by telephone, email, text, or all three according to the customer’s selected preference.
Semi-annual Clean-Up
The Town of Blowing Rock has scheduled its Spring Semi-annual clean-up during the week of May 9-13.
Crews will be picking up items throughout this week including items such as old white goods, yard debris (leaves, tree branches), mattresses, box springs, furniture, grills and paint cans. Paint in cans must be dry or have enough cat litter added to absorb the paint.
Please separate any leaves you might have from any branches you put out so we can use our leaf vacuum machine to expedite pickup.
Please do not block any ditches or drains when putting out your items to be picked up.
Please note that we are not able to pick up propane tanks, electronics, roof shingles, or tires. There is no need to call to have your name put on a list.
