“Dixie Swim Club” is a comedy about five southern women who began a close friendship on their college swimming team. The play tells the story of their lives over the next three decades by focusing on their traditional girls’ getaway trips to the coast of North Carolina.

“Dixie Swim Club” is sure to be a great treat for gals, but its warm, family-friendly mood makes it a touching comedy ideal for people of any age.

“We had a great opening night yesterday,” said Rebecca Williams, president of the Ashe County Little Theatre. “And we hope to have the same kind of turnouts this weekend.”

The ACLT has been putting on shows since 1972 and is a community-based volunteer organization. This fall, 30 people have been involved in bringing “Dixie Swim Club” to life. The Little Theatre is always looking for new volunteers to put on these shows for the public.

The ACLT performs four shows a year and “Dixie Swim Club” is their third show for the season. Their final show will feature “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” and will be performed Oct. 9-10.

Tickets are $16 for adults and $5 for children and students. Tickets can also be purchased in person at the Ashe Arts Center located at 303 School Ave. in West Jefferson.

The next shows will be tonight at 7:30 p.m., Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.

Performances will be in the Ashe Civic Center at 962 Mt. Jefferson Rd. in West Jefferson.
