Second Wettest June on Record Since 1895 in NC, July Rainfall in Boone Already Nears Monthly Record

By Jesse Wood

July 15, 2013. This past June was the second wettest June on record in North Carolina since 1895, according to data released by the State Climate Office of North Carolina last week. Compare this to last year when much of North Carolina was sweating away record-breaking temperatures in late June and early July.

And this year’s July, as we all know, has been no different than the prior month. It has rained in Boone 13 of the 15 days so far. According to climate data compiled at Ray’s Weather, Boone received 12.92 inches of rain through the first 15 days on the month of July.

Ray’s Weather’s archives note that the most precipitation recorded in Boone for the month of July is 13.05 inches of rain. That happened in 1941.

While Ray’s Weather is compiling year-to-date rain totals for a post later this week, a forecast discussion for Monday said, “It’s safe to say that for the vast majority of the region, this is the wettest year on record so far.”

Whether its the mountains or the beach, no matter where tourists have chosen to enjoy the summer in North Carolina, it’s been wet.

The State Climate Office noted that Wilmington had a record-amount of precipitation, too, with 15.86 inches of rain falling in June.
