Second Friday Summer Fish Fry at Mountaineer Ruritan Clubhouse in Sugar Grove Serves for a Cause

by Madison V. Fisler

July 12, 2013. Every second Friday of the summer months from April through September, hundreds of hungry folks make their way to the Mountaineer Ruritan Clubhouse in Watauga County for a summer tradition, the Ruritan Fish Fry in Sugar Grove.

imgres-1From 4:30-7 p.m. heaping plates of fresh fried fish, chicken, french fries, cole slaw and hush puppies await scores of guests as they hand the volunteers $10 per plate to support the cause, which includes iced tea or lemonade to wash it all down with.

This has gone on for more than 30 years now, and all the locals know that it’s the place to be on a warm summer Friday night. Treat yourself to a delicious community dinner and help out a good cause at the same time.

“There are two good things about this,” said Sonny Sweet of the Mountaineer Ruritan club. “One is you catch up on the local news. Plus all the proceeds go to scholarships for kids in Watauga County and help the needy.”

It’s a High Country summer tradition that you should be sure not to miss!

The Mountaineer Ruritan Club is located at 1161 US 321 North in Sugar Grove.
