Jan. 17, 2012. Schools in the Avery County system are closing today at 11 a.m. due to the weather.
A spokesman with the schools said that forecasts predict the winter weather is coming fast, and “we want to make sure we get all the children home safely.”
As for potential closings on Friday, she said that hasn’t been decided as yet. An announcement will either come tonight or in the morning.
