School Board Recognizes Welding, Automotive Students for Accomplishments, Scholarships

The May meeting for the Watauga County Board of Education traditionally features numerous student recognitions due to the end of the school year, and this year that trend continued.

The Watauga County Board of Education heard about the achievements of welding students and automotive technology students. If the school receives photo consent of some more students, additional recognitions will be posted. See photos and more details below:

Welding students Ryan Poole and Alex Reese finished first and second in the state in welding skills. Reese won first place and received $46,000 in scholarship offers to continue his education. Poole took second and received $20,000 in scholarship offers. Their teacher Mr. George Wilson describe their achievements to the Watauga County Board of Education.

Automotive technology teacher Larry Jones introduced six of his students that competed in the SkillsUSA competition recently. See the results below. The six students earned a combined $105,000 in scholarship offers.  is on the far left in the first photo.

Jacob Miller: 1st in regionals and in the state in SkillsUSA competition for Motorcycle Service Technology;

Wriston Hoke: SkillsUSA –Automotive Service 1—5th regionals, 3rd —state

Gray Huffman: SkillsUSA— Automotive Service Technology—3rd—regionals

Jason Carson: SkillsUSA—Motorcycle Service Technology—5th –state

Daniel Taylor: SkillsUSA— Automotive Service Technology –2nd regionals, and 1st in state (with Graham Roten) for Ford/AAA auto skills competition

Graham Roten: SkillsUSA—Diesel Service Technology—3rd regionals, 4th in state, and 1st in state (with Daniel Taylor) for  Ford/AAA auto skills competition
