Local writer Randy Johnson will present an audiovisual program about hiking the Blue Ridge Parkway and Grandfather Mountain this Saturday evening July 1st at 7 PM.
Johnson will also be selling and signing his latest books, the brand new, full color 3rd edition of Hiking the Blue Ridge Parkway, and his award-winning 2016 book, Grandfather Mountain: The History and Guide to an Appalachian Icon.
The Grandfather book just placed first in the book category of the 2017 Society of American Travel Writers eastern chapter writing and photography contest. It also just earned the bronze medal in travel from the 2017 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards. The book was also a finalist for the Thomas Wolfe Memorial Literary Award.
The program will be presented at the Price Park Campground Amphitheater, located in campground loop A with easy parking a few feet away at Lake View Overlook. The overlook is at Milepost 297.2 just south of Blowing Rock, and 2.6 miles south of the US 221 exit near the Cone Manor House. The amphitheater is at the opposite end of the overlook from the boat rental concession.
Come out and enjoy the Parkway’s best trails from a seat among blooming rhododendron with the faint smell of wood smoke in the air.
