Santa Paws is Coming to Town Nov. 22 to Benefit the Watauga Humane Society; Hosted by ASU Students

Nov. 12, 2013. Students at Appalachian State University will host Santa Paws, a family-pet portrait session, with Santa on Friday, Nov. 22, from 5-8 p.m. to benefit the Watauga Humane Society.

Santa Paws is an annual event that invites local animal lovers to bring their four-legged or two legged loved ones to enjoy a night of holiday fun and have their family and pet portraits taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Soft drinks and hot cider will be served for your enjoyment.

A bake sale will offer specialty holiday treats and homemade dog treats for you to purchase, the SNIPS Homecrafted Holiday Sale will be up and running for you to gather gifts for friends and loved ones, and stockings will be strung throughout the facility welcoming donations of toys and treats.

The event will be held in the Irma Baker Lyons Adoption Center at 312 Paws Way in Boone. The event is free to the public with photographs available for $20 or $10 for students.

This event has been organized by students in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies’ Introduction to Not-for-Profit Management class in an effort to raise money and awareness for the Watauga Humane Society and the homeless animals it shelters. The Watauga Humane Society is dedicated to preventing cruelty to animals, promoting the relief of suffering among animals and providing information on humane animal care.

The mission of the Watauga Humane Society is to provide a facility where the public can bring unwanted and abandoned animals; relieve suffering among animals and provide food, shelter, medical care and love to homeless dogs and cats while they await permanent homes; help control the number of unwanted animals but offering low-cost spay/neuter services; and educate the public about responsible animal ownership and care.

A second Santa Paws session and the annual Open House will be held at the Irma Baker Lyons Adoption Center Saturday, Dec. 7 from 1-4 p.m.

Don’t forget to bring donations of toys, treats, blankets and food to stuff an animal’s stocking.

All proceeds from the event benefit the animals at the Adoption Center and strengthen the programs offered to the local community by the Watauga Humane Society.
