UPDATE: It’s down to the sweet 16 and third-round voting ends at midnight tonight. As long as Boone can knock out Athens, Georgia tonight, we’ll make it to the fourth round and will be one step closer to being named the “Best Town Ever!” Not only are we leading Athens with more than 56 percent of the votes, we now have more votes than any other participating town in the country.

Boone fans, your enthusiasm is monumental! Let’s keep those votes coming so we can finish strong in the third round and take on a new contender in the morning.

After trailing behind Savannah, Georgia for several days, Boone made a fantastic comeback in the last remaining hours of second-round voting in the Outside Magazine Best Towns 2015 competition, which ended at midnight.

Not only did we pull in enough votes to take the lead over Savannah, we beat them by more than 1,000 votes, earned our spot in the third round of voting and earned a total of 13,104 votes — more than any other participating town in our region. That is an impressive accomplishment, Boone fans!

Also in the second round, Chattanooga, Tennessee knocked Raleigh-Durham — the only other participating contender from North Carolina — out of the running.

In proceeding to the third round of bracket-style voting, Boone has secured a spot in the September issue of Outside. But we’re still working to earn that feature story and we want to be recognized as Outside‘s “Best Town Ever.”

Voting for the third round is now underway, and our next challenger is Athens, Georgia. If we can defeat Athens, we’ll vie for the top spot in the South region and take on either Chattanooga or Beauford, South Carolina in the fourth of six total rounds lasting five days each.

So far, we’re leading Athens with more than 70 percent of the votes. But don’t stop now! Third-round voting continues through midnight on Monday, so don’t give them a chance to catch up.
