Sept. 25, 2014. Following the second annual charity auction held Aug. 23, the Rotary Club of Blowing Rock distributed $30,000 raised at the auction to 15 local organizations at its meeting on Monday, Sept. 22.

Auction Funds raised and distributed represent and increase of $5,000 (20 percent) over last year’s auction proceeds.

Local organizations included Community Care Clinic, Hospitality House, Hunger & Health Coalition, OASIS, Blowing Rock Cares, Western Youth Network, Mountain Alliance, Crossnor School, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp (RYLA) attendees, scholarships for graduating Watauga High School students, High Country Dictionary Project, cemetery flags for veterans, the New River Conservancy, Hometown Harvest Supper and Career Day for regional eighth graders. Many of the organizations were in attendance at the meeting to receive their checks.

Rotary President John Marshall said, “Rotary is dedicated to supporting local, national, and international charitable organizations that are outstanding in their chosen field. We work hard to raise the funds, in this case through our Charity Auction, and our membership has a good time doing it. Our other major effort this year was assisting the Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show with advertising and logistics during the Show.

“Funds raised by the Club totaled $19,000, all of which will go to support other worthwhile organizations and projects. Club members also contribute personally to organizations such as Rotary International’s Polio Plus project, Change for Alzeimer’s Research Trust (CART), the Rotary Foundation, support for local families at Christmastime and The Wheelchair Foundation to name a few. The vast majority of the funds raised go to help local organizations and projects.”
