Jan. 3, 2013. A male, female tandem from Roan Mountain that was charged for stealing more than $4,000 of goods from a motor vehicle at Beech Mountain Resort on New Year’s Day already had warrants out for their arrest in Avery County and Carter County, Tenn.

The Beech Mountain Police Department filed a report of a breaking and entering on the evening of Jan. 1. when the victims were brought to the station to use the phone to close their credit and debit card accounts.

While calling Bank of America to cancel one of their cards, the victim was told that the card had been last used at the Exxon station in Banner Elk. A dispatcher with the Beech Mountain Police Department was able to retrieve a description of the thieves from an employee of the Exxon.

The Banner Elk and Sugar Mountain police departments and Seven Devils Public Safety responded, and the suspects were quickly located at a Rite Aid Pharmacy in Invershiel, where the two had just purchased additional goods with the stolen cards.

Chrystal Marie Arnold and Zachery T. Cook received 22 criminal charges with most of them being felonies from the multiple agencies involved. Meth and paraphernalia were found in the vehicle along with the stolen items and financial cards.

Beech Mountain Police Chief Jay Hefner thanked the agencies, particularly the communications officials, involved for “bringing this matter to justice,” according to a press release.

“The cooperation between the agencies was excellent and everyone can be proud of a job well done,” Hefner said.
