March 6, 2013. While the drivers of the snow plows are making a valiant effort, the roads are a slushfest out there.

Also, while the snow accumulation predictions for yesterday and today have fluctuated, the latest National Weather Service winter storm warning – as of 6 a.m. this morning – estimates that two to five inches of additional snow accumulation is expected. Gusts up to 60 mph may occur as well.

Ray’s Weather expects areas along North Carolina/Tennessee border and mountaintops will receive 8 inches of snow – while most other areas in the High Country will receive two to four inches of snow – from Tuesday night through Wednesday night. The bulk of snow, though, will hit ground by early afternoon, Ray’s Weather notes.

Boone Police Department has advised folks to use caution on the snow-covered, slick roads on Twitter and Facebook.

AppaCART won’t run buses until at least 4 p.m today. A decision for later runs will be made at 3 p.m.

Watauga County Public Library is closed today.

While Avery and Watauga County Schools are closed, ASU has cancelled all classes before 5 p.m. A decision for those later classes will be made at 3 p.m.

Caldwell has cancelled all day classes. A decision for evening classes will be made at 4 p.m.

Lees-McRae College is closed.

Community Care Clinic closed.
