Registration is underway for the 23 summer classes in the Michael R. Patricelli Craft Enrichment Program at ASU. Craft Enrichment offers a variety of classes for novices, advanced students or individuals ready to explore a new hobby.
“Each class also creates a kind of community of artists whose common interests don’t stop at the end of the class,” said Craft Enrichment Director Kathy Copley.
Copley says there are a lot of new classes this summer – ceramic mosaics, drawing, watercolor painting, raku firing and an intermediate/advanced pottery class focusing on pouring vessels. In a brand new class concept called Make It, Take It, participants who sign up for this four-week class will make four different craft projects they take home (almost) the same day they make them – alcohol ink notecards and a painting, a slumped and fused glass handkerchief vase, a wire-wrapped pendant or earrings and a stained glass sun catcher.
Classes that weren’t offered this Spring that are back on the Summer schedule include East Asian brush painting, beginning and intermediate digital photography, basket making, weaving, quilting and stained glass. Perennial favorites glass fusing and slumping, beginning and intermediate jewelry making, and pottery classes for all skill levels round out the Summer schedule.
Class cost ranges from $95-$235. For most classes, the class fee covers the cost of materials and for weekday classes it includes parking passes for the River Street Parking Deck. Free, convenient parking is available for evening and weekend classes.
Small class sizes provide individual attention from instructors who are dedicated professionals committed both as teachers and craft artists. This summer there are weekend classes, week-long morning or afternoon workshops, and four-, five- and eight-week courses. Professional-level equipment is available and participants have time to see where an idea leads in studio-based classes that promote the development of artists at all levels. Affiliation with the university is not required.
Class size is limited so early registration is a good idea. Register online, follow the program on Facebook or contact Copley at craftenrichment@appstate.edu.
