Feb. 24, 2015. On Saturday, Feb. 28, RECESS Ride Shop will host the sixth annual wRECklESS Rail Jam at Beech Mountain Resort. The competition, which boasts one of the largest cash purses in the southeast, will begin at noon.

The event will be held in a rail jam format, where riders from separate divisions will compete together.

wreckless2015_web2“Instead of doing individual runs where a rider is running by themselves and being judged, all of the riders from each skill level will ride together,” said J.P. Pardy, owner of RECESS Ride Shop.

“Instead of getting a limited number of runs, each group will have 25-30 minutes. This competition being rail jam specific, we are mostly focusing on your standard, traditional skate-style rails. We will have a double-down rail, a down rail, a down flat rail and then there will be some more unique features too.”

Participants will compete in front of a panel of judges, including Pardy himself and Brandon Crocket of Vans.

“It’s not judged on how many tricks you do,” Pardy said. “You are judged on the style of the riding and the technicality o the tricks, and how you use all of the features.”

The riders will be broken into three groups: Beginner, intermediate and advanced.

The competition boasts a whole heap of great prizes, most impressive of which is the $1,000 cash prize for the overall winner of the competition.

“The cash goes to the top three riders in the advanced division – first, second and third. Those guys are usually sponsored riders, so if they win product they can’t really use it. That means that we take the prizes that are usually reserved for advanced riders, like snowboards and gear, and give them as prizes to intermediate riders.”

First place advanced will win the coveted $1,000 cash prize, while second place will take home $600 and third place will nab $400. Other prizes will include a brand new Capita snowboard, Union bindings, SPY goggles, Recess Gift Certificates and much more.

Registration for the event costs $15 per person and will take place at 9:30-11 a.m. in The Beech Tree. Warm ups will start at 10 a.m. will the contest taking place from 12-3 p.m.
