Missing ASU Student’s Status Unchanged Friday, Update: Whereabouts Tracked, No Foul Play Suspected

Update: Friday afternoon: Jane Nicholson, a spokesperson with Appalachian State University, said that as of 5 p.m. on Friday, there is “nothing new to report” regarding the ASU student that was reported missing since Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Sept. 4, 2014. A preliminary investigation conducted by Appalachian State University Police into a report of a missing 18-year-old student has found nothing to suggest that the student’s actions are anything other than voluntary.

Thanks to response from media reports and a campus-wide notification, police have been able to track Anna M. Smith’s whereabouts from late Tuesday, Sept. 2, to late Wednesday, Sept. 3.

Smith of High Point was reported missing Wednesday night, Sept. 3, after she was last seen by individuals in her residence hall at noon, Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Since that time, it was reported that Smith used Mountaineer SafeRide Tuesday, Sept. 2, around 10:26 p.m. SafeRide is a university van service that provides transportation around campus for students during the evening hours.

In addition, she was seen near her residence hall on Wednesday, Sept. 3, between 6 and 6:15 p.m. She reportedly was wearing light colored clothing (shorts and a shirt).

University Police continue to urge anyone who has seen Smith to contact them at 828-262-2150. Reports can be made anonymously at http://police.appstate.edu/crime-tip-submission-form.

Smith is 18 years old, has short red hair, blue eyes, is 5-feet 9-inches tall, slender build, and has nose piercings, a black and white sunflower tattoo on her upper right chest near her collar bone and Latin lettering over her lower left ribs.

She has been entered on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database as missing. In addition, area local law enforcement agencies have been notified.

 

Public’s Help Sought in Locating Missing ASU Student

Appalachian State University Police are seeking information regarding a student who has been missing since Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Anna M. Smith of High Point was last seen at her residence hall room on campus around noon, Sept. 2. Smith is 18 years old, has short red hair, blue eyes, is 5-feet 9-inches tall with a slender build, and has nose piercings, a black and white sunflower tattoo on her upper right chest near her collar bone and Latin lettering over her lower left ribs. It is not known what she was wearing when she was last seen.

She has been entered as missing on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.
