May 19, 2014. The Watauga County Board of Commissioners will hold a special hearing on the proposed $57-million budget for the 2014-15 fiscal year.

While the Watauga County Board of Commissioners regularly-scheduled meeting starts at 5:30 p.m., the public hearing on the proposed budget will begin at 6 p.m in the commissioners board room in the Watauga County Administration Building. To review the budget online, click here.

The agenda for the meeting is light. As has been the case in recent years, dozens of residents speak during the public hearing – most of them advocating for funding of a certain nonprofit. Last year, people wore “pink for nonprofits” during the lengthy hearing featuring many passionate pleas from citizens.

That looks to be the case again – as the Watauga County Democratic Party has encouraged folks to attend the meeting and “wear pink to show support for nonprofits.”

Last week, the commissioners voted on nonprofit funding and special appropriations at a budget work session. See a list of the proposed funding to nonprofits in an article about that meeting here.
