By Bailey Faulkner

Eclectic live band Pressley & The Shiners will take the stage at Café Portofino for their first ever live performance this Saturday, February 25. Having just recently formed, the four-piece band is looking forward to the energy that will fill the venue on Saturday.

The Boone-based band is comprised of:

Pressley Laton acoustic guitar, lead vocals

Daniel Ames guitar, vocals

Paul Woods bass

Brian Russell Collins drums, vocals

Pressley & The Shiners got its start after Laton and Collins met and began talking about music. Since then, the two have assembled a full band that is now excited to see what the future holds for their music.

“It’s great to play with a band based out of Boone,” Collins said. “Each member of the band is a great musician, too.”

Though the band may be green, Pressley & The Shiners definitely knows what it takes to please an audience. The band focuses on playing a mix of genres that will be sure to please everyone in attendance.

“We’re going to be hitting everything on Saturday,” Collins said. “We’re definitely going to be catering to the crowd, playing country, rock, pop and funk.”

One defining element of the band is its strong frontwoman, Pressley Laton.

“Pressley has a phenomenal, thunderous voice,” Collins said.

While Pressley holds down the front and center for the band, Pressley & The Shiners would not be the same without an especially talented musician filling each role. Collins has made a name for himself as a member of Vance Fite, a rock and alternative band originally from Atlanta.

Ames has also gained recognition as a musician in the High Country, playing in bands in the area and leading worship at a local church. While some might not realize it while he is performing, Ames is also a highly skilled composer. Woods is another irreplaceable member of the band.

“Paul is definitely going to bring the comedic relief to the show,” Collins said. “You’ll definitely be laughing at him and me.”

With talent and showmanship covered, the band is looking forward to showing Boone what it’s all about.

“The energy on Saturdays at Portofino is always great,” Collins said. “It will be nice to have something different with a high-caliber band that will blow the night away. We’re looking forward to seeing people’s reactions.”

What likely will be the most exciting and refreshing sight on Saturday night is the emphasis that each member puts on his or her band mates.

“I’d like to put a spotlight on all the band mates,” Collins added.
