March 15, 2013. The U.S. Forest Service plans to conduct a prescribed burn today and tomorrow on 350 acres of the Grandfather Ranger District, Pisgah National Forest, in Caldwell County. The prescribed burn will reduce the amount of fuel on the forest floor, preventing catastrophic wildfire and reducing risks to nearby communities.
The burn will take place off of Maple Sally Road near Adams Mountain. The southern portion of Wilson Ridge Trail will be closed during the prescribed burn. Loose Mountain Trail will also be closed.
Public safety is the highest priority during a prescribed burn.
