Popular Speaker Elliot Engel To Speak on Winston Churchill at the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum

July 16, 2013. The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum will host special guest Elliot Engel as its Third Thursday speaker at 4:30 p.m. on July 18. Engel, who draws crowds for his literary and historical talks across the country, will present “Winston Churchill”, an inspiring public and private figure and touchingly human hero.

engelOriginally from Indianapolis, Engel now lives in Raleigh, where he spends his time when he is not traveling to his many speaking engagements. He earned an M.A. and Ph.D. from UCLA, where he was a Woodrow Wilson Fellow and won the university’s Outstanding Teaching Award. He has also taught at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University and Duke University, and has received North Carolina’s Adult Education Award, N.C. State’s Distinguished Outreach Professorship and the Victorian Society Award of Merit. He has been described not only as an academic, but also an artist, using his spoken word to bring literature and history to life.

In addition to his busy lecture schedule, Dr. Engel has published 7 books both in England and the United States and written three plays. His articles have appeared in Newsweek and PBS television stations around the country have aired his mini-lecture series on his favorite author Charles Dickens.

To provide for expenses for this educational and entertaining lecture, the Museum will charge an admission fee of $20 for both members and non-members. “Very British” refreshments will be provided by Louise and Banks Talley.
