Photos: Great Turnout at Sugar’s Oktoberfest Despite Messy Weather on Saturday

Hurricane Matthew sent a little rain our way on Saturday, but that didn’t stop many folks from heading up the mountain for the annual Oktoberfest celebration at Sugar Mountain Resort.

Despite the messy weather, the event was well attended on Saturday, which typically sees the largest crowd out of the weekend every year. The rain didn’t stick around for the weekend, however, and it was replaced with sunshine on Sunday, drawing an even larger number of people to Oktoberfest at Sugar.

“We had a great turnout. The weather was a little uncooperative on Saturday, so we didn’t see the big turnout that we normally do. Often Saturday is our biggest day, but even with the weather we had a terrific turnout,” said Sugar Mountain Vice President Kim Jochl. “Sunday was a beautiful day, so we had a lot of people riding the new Summit Express and dancing and singing. It was a good event.”

Festival goers enjoyed traditional German foods, Spaten beer straight from Bavaria and Oom Pah tunes from the 15-piece Harbour Towne Fest Band.
