The Blowing Rock Country Club hosted a packed house on Friday for the community’s annual Charity Fashion Show, which brought friends and neighbors together with local clothiers to raise funds and awareness for the latest project of Appalachian Regional Healthcare System.
The 38th annual event supported Chestnut Ridge, a brand new 112-bed post-acute care facility that ARHS is building on 68 acres alongside the Blue Ridge Parkway. The new facility will offer short- and long-term rehabilitation services, skilled nursing care, memory care support and palliative care.
The day’s events began with a silent auction from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Event Executive Chair Suzanne Miller led with a welcome message and an introduction of this year’s Honorary Chairwoman, Marty Couch.
ARHS Senior Vice President of System Advancement Rob Hudspeth followed with a few opening remarks.
“As we make this move to Chestnut Ridge, I ask that you take great pride and satisfaction in knowing that you played a role in getting us there,” he said. “You made a difference in our community. You helped make a difference in the lives of patients.”
Betty Pitts led the invocation and a moment of silence for the life of Tacky Vosburgh, a past Honorary Chairwoman and Woman of the Year recipient.
Lunch and dessert were served before the show began.
Sporting the latest in fashions from local boutiques and establishments, participating models from the community walked the runway in support of Chestnut Ridge.
Miller, one of many dedicated volunteers, has put her heart and soul into the event for many years and was recognized as at the event as Woman of the Year. Her husband, children and grandchildren joined her on stage for the surprise announcement.
