Photos: Families and Friends Enjoy Christmastime Festivities in Banner Elk

Families, friends and visitors to the area enjoyed a weekend of old-fashioned Christmastime festivities in downtown Banner Elk on Saturday.

The day began with a breakfast with Santa at Dunn’s Deli and included an assortment of celebrations leading up to the annual Parade of Lights, Christmas in the Park and the lighting of a 40-foot community tree. Events that day included a grand opening and storytelling at the Banner Elk Book Exchange, a reindeer hunt in Tate-Evans Park, a Christmas market at the Historic Banner Elk School, mini farm tours at Apple Hill Farm, pet holiday cookies at My Best Friend’s Barkery, a viewing of the movie Frozen at Lees-McRae College, an ornament making workshop, Christmas cookie decorating and so much more.

Beginning at 5 p.m., the annual Parade of Lights strolled through town, lighting up the community with fun and colorfully-decorated floats and displays. After the parade, folks made their way over to the park through a path of luminaries to enjoy a nativity scene, a campfire and special meet-and-greet sessions with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
