Aug. 7, 2013. Representatives of the newly formed Appalachian Theatre of the High Country, Inc. recently received the donation of an original 1938 opening night program of the Appalachian Theatre.  Pam Fisher presented the program to John Cooper, chair of the theatre’s board of trustees.

John commented, “It is amazing that this document has survived 75 years to come full-circle back to its original home.  It is a cherished piece of history that we will add to our archives.”

The program was given by Pam Fisher and Julie Storie Cline from a scrapbook belonging to their mother, Elizabeth Storie.

The group has been able to locate some of the original interior light fixtures and pieces of the facade decorative glass that adorned the outside of the 1938 theatre.  Eric Plaag, chairperson for the history and archives committee stated, “We are eager to acquire any historic information that will help us not only restore the theatre to its former design style but also gain more insight into the history of the theatre itself.  It is important that we preserve our past for future generations.”

The Appalachian Theatre of the High Country, Inc. recently reimbursed the Town of Boone “in full and with interest” for their November 2011 acquisition of the historic Appalachian Theatre and are now the owners of the venue.

Please contact Eric Plaag directly at 803-466-7050 or you can email him at ericplaag@gmail.com if you have any old photos, historical knowledge or memorabilia that could benefit the restoration process of the theatre.
