If the 19th annual Blood Sweat and Gears charity ride sells out in less than 19 minutes, that won’t surprise anyone. Historically, the century ride sells out in a matter of minutes, while the half-century sells out in just a few hours.
Online registration for the 2017 Blood Sweat and Gears opens on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 6 a.m. The field is limited to 1,400 cyclists – 900 spots for the 90-mile ride and 500 spots for the half-century.
The 90-mile loop starts and ends at the Valle Crucis Elementary School, while climbing a cumulative 6,629 feet. The top of the climb, at a 18 to 20 percent grade, reaches Snake Mountain at mile point 50. The half-century is available for those who “prefer the sanity of a challenging but shorter route,” according to a description of the ride.
