May 14, 2013. It’s mid May, and a patch of snow remains atop Sugar Mountain Resort. Kim Jochl of Sugar Mountain captured these images on Tuesday afternoon.

On Sunday night, temperatures fell to 27 degrees on top of Sugar Mountain and were slightly higher Monday night. Jochl said she couldn’t recall snow ever sticking to the ground this late in May.

“It’s not usual. Generally, snow is gone by May for sure,” Jochl said, adding that before the three-day torrential downpour and flooding a week ago, close to two feet of snow stood at the same location as the patch of snow pictured.

With temperatures heating up, the snow will be gone very soon. As of 5 p.m. on Tuesday, temperatures were in the low 60s on Sugar Mountain, according to Raysweather.com.
