NY Times Bestselling Author Sharyn McCrumb to Speak at High Country Writers Meeting, Sept. 14

New York Times bestselling author Sharyn McCrumb will be making a return visit to the High Country. Sharon McCrumb will be the featured speaker at the Thursday, September 14 meeting of the High Country Writers at the Watauga County Public Library in Boone. The Library is located at 140 Queen Street. She will present a program on researching her new Ballad novel, The Unquiet Grave.

 

McCrumb is an award-winning Southern writer whose books celebrate the history and folklore of Appalachia. She is best known for her Appalachian “Ballad” novels, including the New York Times bestsellers The Ballad of Frankie Silver and She Walks These Hills, and for St. Dale, winner of a Library of Virginia Award and featured in the National Festival of the Book. In 2008 Mc Crumb was named a Virginia Woman of History for Achievement in Literature. Since 1988, Mc Crumb has won fourteen Best Novel and Best Short-story awards. Educated at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a master’s degree in English from Virginia Tech, she was the first writer-in-residence at King College in Tennessee. In 2005 she was honored as the Writer of the Year at Emory and Henry College.

High Country Writers has been “energizing writers since 1995!” Regular meetings are at the Watauga County Public Library on the second and fourth Thursdays of most months from ten until noon and speakers’ programs are co-sponsored with the Library. HCW members present writing skills workshops on the first Thursday of the month, and have recently partnered with the Watauga Arts Council in hosting these workshops.
