Oct. 7, 2014. The North Carolina Symphony will make its way to Boone tonight for a musical performance with students from the Hayes School of Music. On Oct. 7, the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts at Appalachian State University will host the North Carolina Symphony conducted by Associate Conductor David Glover.
“We love to partner with the Hayes School of Music and the Appalachian Symphony Orchestra rivals professional orchestras across the country, so when this opportunity came up we knew we had to present it,” said Megan Stage of the Office of Arts and Cultural Programs.
The concert, which will begin at 8 p.m., will feature pieces from Mozart, Glinka, Delibes, Brahms and Wagner. During the final piece of the evening, the symphony will perform side-by-side wit the Appalachian Symphony Orchestra.
“The Appalachian Symphony Orchestra is comprised of students in the Hayes School of Music,” Stage said. “And the North Carolina Symphony travels all over the nation and is highly acclaimed. It is wonderful that we can capitalize on the talented musicians in our state and partners with the student symphony as well.”
In addition to the concert, the North Carolina Symphony will also perform the morning of Oct. 7 for the APPlause! Series for K-12 students in local schools. This program will be sponsored by Appalachian’s Office of Arts and Cultural Programs. The NC Symphony will also be attending a master class with the Appalachian Symphony so they can work closely with each of the instrument sections.
Tickets for the event are available at the Schaefer Center’s box office and online at PAS.appstate.edu. Tickets may also be purchased by calling the box office at 828-262-4046. Tickets for the show are $20 for adults and $10 for students.
“Tickets will be available at the door,” Stage said. “But we always encourage people to purchase ahead of time so they can ensure the best seats!”
