Feb. 11, 2013. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas in North Carolina has hit a three-month high today to the tune of $3.52 per gallon, according to multiple websites that conduct fuel price surveys. High Country gas prices are mirroring the state average, ranging from $3.42 to over $3.60 per gallon.
The AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report lists North Carolina’s average price for a gallon of regular unleaded at $3.524 today, up more than four cents from a week ago and 14 cents from one month ago.
The lowest gas price you will find in the High Country as of Monday morning is at the WilcoHess station located at 1256 Blowing Rock Road in Boone, where it costs $3.429 per gallon to fill up, according to Motor Trend. A handful of other gas stations in the area are below $3.50 per gallon — though not many — and several are sitting right at the state average.
The cheapest gas you will find in Banner Elk this morning is located at the Exxon at 115 Main St. W and the Scotchman at 2015 Tynecastle Highway, which both have regular unleaded for $3.499 per gallon, according to Motor Trend.
Based on GasBuddy.com’s three-month average price chart for North Carolina, the state saw a three-month low back on Dec. 20, 2012, when gas was hovering around $3.21 per gallon, which was also the lowest average in the past year.
For the past three years, gas prices have trended up this time of year, typically peaking out in April or May, before coming back down.
Although $3.52 per gallon isn’t fun to see when you pull up to the pumps, North Carolina motorists are certainly better off now than they were back in early September 2012, when gas prices were peaking out close to $3.90 per gallon for regular unleaded.
