North Carolina Board of Nursing Approves Lees-McRae to Begin Offering a Pre-Licensure Nursing Program

Feb. 2, 2015. Lees-McRae College is proud to announce that on Jan. 30, the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON) approved the college to begin offering a pre-licensure nursing program. As the regulating body for the practice of nursing in North Carolina, NCBON approval marks a significant milestone in the progress of pre-licensure nursing at Lees-McRae.

LMCCurrent students who have completed the prerequisites for the pre-licensure nursing program may apply directly to the program. Applications will be accepted until March 6 for the first class of pre-licensure nursing students beginning in fall 2015. Incoming students interested in pursing a BSN may apply to Lees-McRae at any point and will begin the process as a pre-nursing student.

“The administration, faculty and staff of Lees-McRae have worked so hard to make this vision a reality for our students, supporters and community members,” said Dr. Laura Fero, dean of the May School of Nursing and Health Sciences.

“We want to extend our deepest appreciation for the overwhelming encouragement and support received. The May School of Nursing and Health Sciences is excited about the future as it moves forward and grows all of Lees-McRae’s healthcare programs.”

Lees-McRae’s pre-licensure nursing program strives to be collaborative and interdisciplinary while integrating technology and pedagogy to create a holistic student experience. With a focus on data-driven success and strong faculty-student relationships, each nursing student will receive individualized attention to facilitate success and ensure awareness of his or her progress throughout the program.

The pre-licensure nursing program will be housed in the newly-constructed May School of Nursing and Health Sciences, an interdisciplinary, collaborative space that will serve all students in the Division of Nursing and Health Sciences.

In addition to the pre-licensure nursing, the division includes athletic training, a flagship program at Lees-McRae, the RN to BSN program and the newly-developed Emergency Medical Services and Management program. All students in the division will have access to $1.2 million in technology including the multi-faceted Hart Simulation Center which features 3G wireless human simulators and a simulated inpatient hospital unit complete with exam tables, hospital beds and a replicated efficiency apartment. The simulation center was recently designated a Gaumard premiere site, one of only 33 in the country.
