May 22, 2014. As motorists hit the road for the unofficial start of summer, the N.C. Department of Transportation is temporarily suspending lane closures along U.S. 321 in Blowing Rock to accommodate the higher volume of travelers during Memorial Day weekend.
There will be no lane closures within the U.S. 321 widening project from Friday, May 23, at 6 a.m. through Tuesday, May 27, at 6 p.m.
Despite the lane closure restrictions, crews from contractor Maymead, Inc., will be working on the project during some of this time. Motorists are advised to slow down and use caution when traveling through work zones.
The speed limit along the U.S. 321 widening project is 35 mph. The N.C. State Highway Patrol will monitor this corridor for speeding violations.
