The Town of Newland’s Celebrate Independence Day Festival will be held this coming Saturday, July 7th, at the town’s Riverwalk Park and Bandstand.

A parade will kick off the festivities at 12:00 noon at the town square and end at the old Lowes Food parking lot.

A welcome from Newland Town Officials will begin at 12:45 p.m. at the bandstand. A Cute Pet Contest will run from 1:30 until 2:00 p.m. with trophies awarded to the winners. All pets must be on leashes at the contest and during the day’s events.

Watermelon and Pie Eating contests follow at 2:00 p.m. until a Cornhole Tournament gets underway at 2:30 with no ending time. Trophies also will be given to the tournament winners.

Musical entertainment featuring the Avery County Cloggers, Willie Parlier and The Roan Crows will kick off at 3:00 p.m. with a street dance and food trucks from 6:00-8:00 that evening. Then, the headline band, Mountain Rose, will appear in concert from 8:00 until 9:15. Then, a dazzling fireworks extravaganza will fill the dark evening skies, beginning at 9:45 to conclude the festival.

There also will be more than 30 food, crafts and retail vendor booths available starting at 1:00 p.m. and remaining until 6:00 p.m.

In the event of rain, the festival will move to the Rock Gymnasium next to Newland Elementary School.

Town of Newland Mayor Valerie Jaynes, Town Manger Keith Hoilman and Aldermen Kenny Caraway, Greg Seiz, Lauren Turbyfill and Jamey Johnson invite all town residents and any visitors to attend the Independence Day Festival.
