New Show by Award-Winning Painter Jeremy Sams, Hanging Now Through September 12

Meet Sams at reception on Aug. 25, from 11 to 5

A new art show is hanging now, and you’re invited to Alta Vista Gallery’s reception Aug. 25 to meet award-winning plein air painter Jeremy Sams and enjoy his show of 25 acrylics — “Looking on the Bright Side” — hanging now through September 12.  Drop in from 11 to 5 to hear Sams discuss his art.  Bring friends to enjoy refreshments and an amazing art show!

As the first-place winner of many juried competitions, including the recent competition in Blowing Rock,  Sams’ list of awards is quite long, and he has been featured in an international art magazine.  Sams says “I’m a representational artist depicting a mood with a suggestion of detail.  I’m trying to find a happy balance in my art.”  He is also chiefly concerned with the light source and showing the play of light in his art.

His show includes a variety of sizes, ranging from canvases of 30 by 40 inches, down to 8×10 inches.  The smaller paintings are created on location “en plein air,” and the larger ones are completed in his studio.  Subjects include sunrises that especially depict his skills in revealing the light.  Other subjects in his show include:  rivers, rural scenes, snow scenes, mountain landscapes.

To see some of Sams’ art, visit the Alta Vista Gallery page on Facebook.

Alta Vista Gallery hosts a new show monthly, and the public is invited to attend the opening receptions on the fourth Saturday of each month, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., to meet the artists and enjoy refreshments.  The Sept. 22 reception will be “Textures of Nature,” oils by Monique Carr.

In its 28th year, Alta Vista Gallery represents over 100 artists in all media, including:  oils, acrylics, watercolors, prints, Craftsman-style art tiles, stained glass, bronze sculptures by Rusty Gray, Mangum Pottery, and the debut novel of the gallery owner, He Gave Me Barn Cats.

The gallery is located in a National Register Historic farmhouse at 2839 Broadstone Road, Valle Crucis, N.C. – between Mast Farm Inn and Mast Store Annex – only 10 minutes from Boone.  For info, call (828) 963-5247.  For a map and directions, visit www.AltaVistaGallery.com.
