
New River Canoe (and Kayak) Race FACT SHEET

The 34th Annual New River Canoe Race will be held on Saturday June 6th, 2015. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at Zaloos Canoes in Jefferson with the first boat in the water at 9 a.m. This race is NOT a shotgun start, and boats are welcome to enter from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. (1 p.m. for boats with children).
Registration: $10 per participant, with a $5 fee for every additional race. Registration includes a free Tshirt and entry for a doorprize. The Family Float division (up to six in a boat) is $25
Don’t own a boat? No problem. Zaloos Canoes graciously discounts its prices to rent canoes or kayaks to Race participants. Zaloos also offers FREE shuttles to ALL participants.
The race course is an easy 5 mile paddle to New River State Park, Wagoner Access.
What to expect at the finish line?
You will be escorted out of the River by one of our volunteer youth groups after passing the finish line.
New River State Park has full bathroom facilities, picnic areas and hiking trails
The Park will have several family friendly activities available on site during Race day.
A food vendor will be available or pack a picnic.
You can enjoy some local music at the Park
****Awards Ceremony is at 3pm*** We encourage all participants to be present for the Awards Ceremony. And you must be present to win a door prize.
You do not have to be present to win a raffle prize
All proceeds go directly to Friends of High Country State Parks to supplement supplies and programming for the 4 parks in our area: New River, Mount Jefferson Natural Area, Elk Knob and Grandfather Mountain.
We are currently raising funds to help us finance the race (we have purposely chosen to keep registration at $10 to make this event not seem “exclusive”) The Sponsorship level begins at $250. Sponsors are featured in all advertising and their logo is on the Tshirts.
