New Members Elected to Board of 50-Year-Old Daniel Boone Native Gardens, Plant Sale Saturday Morning

April 25, 2013. During the annual convention of the Garden Club of North Carolina, the Daniel Boone Native Gardens elected new board members.

Officers this year include Chair Rebecca Kaenzig of Boone; Vice Chair Sarah Gilley of Blowing Rock; Secretary Dianne Dougherty of Boone and Treasurer Pat Wilkie of Boone.

Other board members include Cloe Coleman of Boone; Liz Cornella of Boone; B. R. Hoffman of Banner Elk; Nell Kline of Lenoir; Ernestine Leonard of Pinnacle; Elizabeth Martin of Winston-Salem; Zack Murrell of Boone; Susan Oliver of Boone; Annkatrin Rose of Boone; and Jerry Silber of Winston-Salem.

Recently awarded tax exempt status as a 501(c) 3 organization,  Kaenzig said, “This year is our 50th anniversary. Thanks to our Friends of the Gardens, we are planning other new projects, including adding more education events for families.”

The Daniel Boone Gardens kick off the 2013 season with the 6th Annual EARLY BIRD WILDFLOWER WALK & PLANT SALE which begins at 8 a.m. on April 27.  Native plants will be available from local vendors. Event is free.  Bring the family. Hike the Strawberry Hill Arboretum. Bird tours and Squire Boone Cabin open. 

About the Daniel Boone Native Gardens

Opened in 1963, the mission of the gardens is to protect and conserve plants in addition to educating visitors about native plants of North Carolina. The gardens focus on wildflowers, ferns and trees. The Daniel Boone Native Gardens are located at 651 Horn in the West Drive, Boone, N.C. and open from May to October.
