Dec. 11, 2012. A new instant game starting Tuesday offers crossword puzzle fans five chances to win $100,000 – the largest top prize ever offered on a crossword-themed lottery ticket in North Carolina.
At $5 per ticket, the $100,000 Crossword game offers an extended play experience. Below the crossword puzzle, a player scratches to reveal 18 letters. If three or more words in the puzzle can be spelled using only those 18 letters, the ticket wins a prize. A bonus puzzle at the bottom of the ticket offers more chances to win. The game begins with more than $10.3 million in total prizes and 1 in 4 overall odds of winning.
A new playing card-themed game is also going on sale. Blackjack Tripler launches with five top prizes of $21,000. At $2 per play, each of eight hands on a ticket has a player’s cards and a prize. The prize for a given hand is won when the player’s cards add up to a higher total than the dealer’s total. If a player’s hand totals 21, the player wins triple the prize shown. The game begins with more than $5.3 million in total prizes and 1 in 4.55 overall odds of winning.

Along with draw games, sales of instant tickets have enabled the N.C. Education Lottery to raise more than $2.58 billion to benefit education statewide. By law, lottery funds pay for teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction, prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, and college scholarships and financial aid based on need.
