May 9, 2014. Lane closures along the U.S. 321 widening project in Blowing Rock will be temporarily suspended beginning Friday, May 9, at 6 a.m. for the Appalachian State University commencement ceremonies. Because of the large volume of motorists expected to travel through the area in the coming days, all lanes will remain open through Monday, May 12, at 8 a.m.
The N.C. Department of Transportation reminds motorists to slow down and use caution when traveling through work zones, as they may encounter crews working beside U.S. 321 or construction traffic crossing U.S. 321. During the lane closure suspension, crews from contractor Maymead, Inc. will be working on the project. That work, however, won’t require traffic control and should not have major impacts on the traveling public.
The speed limit on U.S. 321 in Blowing Rock is 35 mph, and the N.C. State Highway Patrol will monitor this area for speeding violations.
